When thinking about Kentucky there are some things that come right to mind; Basketball, horses and bourbon. One would not think of Kentucky as a place for ice climbing.
Well, there are adventurous souls out there that happen to brave the frozen ice around the gorges in the Bluegrass state and director Mike Wilkinson captured a unique story in his documentary, "Gone Tomorrow: The Story of Kentucky Ice Climbing."
Having spent several years planning this documentary and gathering footage in chunks; First filming the climbs, to interviewing the climbers and finally piecing together a whole story, Wilkinson freezes a moment in time that very well could be the last time these adrenaline junkies get to climb Kentucky ice.
The documentary is fun, funny and engaging for an audience. And I was spoiled, because, on a whim, I decided to visit the Kentucky Theatre and this is what was playing.
The Kentucky Theatre is an iconic landmark in the Lexington, Kentucky area and if you ever get the chance to experience a movie there, it is a must.
The crowd was energized and excited for the adventure ahead with the film. That added to the experience.
"Gone Tomorrow" has been accepted into 9 film festivals, so there are still chances to see this niche look into a culture not many know about in Kentucky.
